If my team makes a canasta in 4s, and my opponent subsequently throws me a 4 onto the discard pile, I can't pick up that 4. Once a canasta is made, you can't pick up the top card from the discard pile as if it was just normal points on the table.
Ie I can make 120 with like, a pair of 4's in my hand and nothing else, provided there's a ton of points in the deck.
Right now, the deck can fill up with a ton of cards, and picking up the deck allows me to use every card in it to meld with. You cannot use the entire deck to make your initial meld.
